About

JOSEPH R. MADONIA, LCSW-R, CASAC

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Addiction Specialist with over 28 years of experience in the field.

Through a cognitive behavioral treatment approach, I provide my patients with a safe, trusting and comfortable environment that allows them the space to reflect, process and strategize ways to enhance their lives to live to their fullest potential.

I currently serve on the faculty of the NYU Graduate School of Social Work as an Associate Clinical Professor and Faculty Advisor. In 2022 I was selected to serve as the Director of the NYU Post-Masters in Addictions program. As of 2019 I have been actively serving on the NASW-NYC Chapter Ethics Board Committee.  I also provide clinical supervision to those clinicians seeking New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Connecticut licensure. I also work very closely with the N.J. and N.Y.S. court system to assist those clients who are justice involved.

For the past 18 years I served as the Director for one of the leading Drug and Mental Health courts in the Nation. I also developed, designed and operated the first DWI, Veterans and Co-Occurring Mental Health treatment courts in Brooklyn NY.

I am a graduate of New York University and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I hold several degrees and certifications including Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor and Forensic Mental Health Counselor and have over 28 years experience working with the Forensic and Co-Occurring Disorders populations.

I conduct numerous professional development trainings for practicing clinicians throughout the United States and maintain a private psychotherapy practice in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Connecticut, where I treat adolescents and young adults with substance abuse and mental health disorders.

Your mental health is a priority. Your happiness is essential. Your self-care is a necessity. You are invaluable.
